Luna Park: Jobs

We are now at 44 days until opening, and as we move forward with our preparations to launch this year's operation we have now begun to execute our hiring plan. With the help of CIDC, SBS and 8 local community organizations we have organized 3 screening events to take place between this week and next.

The first of the screening events was held on Tuesday, April 13th, and was quite a success. We had over 200 interested candidates attend with the majority coming from the 11224 zip code.

The upcoming events will be held on:

Saturday, April 17th; 10am-2pm

New York Aquarium

602 Surf Avenue

Thursday, April 22nd; 2pm-8pm

Carey Gardens Community Center

2315 Surf Avenue

Luna Park Mystery Picture

59 Days and counting!!

Last week the picture below surfaced online showing 8 pipes that had been placed under ground at the new Luna Park site. Since then the picture has appeared on various message boards with folks wondering what purpose the pipes will serve.

The 8 pipes are actually part of a detention tank which is being installed underground to collect stormwater runoff. The purpose of the detention tank is to absorb surplus stormwater, to prevent it from overloading the local infrastructure. Basically, instead of stormwater overflowing and causing flooding, the detention tank will instead hold the stormwater and slowly release it preventing a surge and the potential for property damage.

That way Luna Park will be able to quickly recover after storms, and immediately begin operations for you enjoyment. However, since we've already made weather arrangements calling for clear skies and nothing but sunshine, none of this should really have to come into play, it's merely just a back-up plan. =)

Riegelmann Boardwalk

Riegelmann Boardwalk

Walking along Riegelmann Boardwalk today felt like a prelude to the quickly approaching summer season. The weather was just right, and Coney Island lovers were ready and willing to take advantage by taking a stroll alongside the Beach. After a long, dark winter, it was a pleasure to see the Boardwalk become alive and full of energy with visitors and area businesses opening up. The warm weather is certainly setting the stage, and adding intensity to the anticipation of Luna Park's arrival.

With 70 days left until opening day, we are making preparations to fulfill our staffing needs. For the 2010 season, Luna Park will have 247 positions to fill by our opening day on Memorial Day weekend. Currently, we are accepting applications online via our website (http://www.lunaparknyc.com/) for 9 different types of positions. Should applicants not have access to a computer or the internet, they can apply by visiting local community organization, such as the Astella Development Corp (located at 1618 Mermaid Ave). There they will be provided with access to a computer, which they will be permitted to use to visit our website, and submit a job form.
